You all will be thinking what a lousy blog writer I am as I made a mistake in writing the blog title by using synonyms instead of antonyms. But I promise you that you will agree with me on my blog title by the end of it. In today’s world, when someone fails, people make them as an example that if you try something new, you will become just like him “a failure.” We are termed as a failure in our life by our society, and people start behaving differently once we failed in our life. But what they don’t know is that when we try new things, we only learn new things, and that’s a success in my language. Let me take an example, with my two friends, I started working on a startup for drone technologies to help people get medical supplies in a hilly area and during the time of the disaster at a much faster pace. We worked every night after the classes from 10 PM to morning 3 AM and then attended lectures not to get missed on our grades. We worked like this for more than six months and created our prototype and got selected as a top 100 startups out of 100k plus startups at Startup Istanbul and got a chance to present in front of some of the world’s biggest VC firms. But after some time, we concluded that we could not take our startup further as we all were thinking of going on a different path in our career. We tried to make it work, but it didn’t come together, and we failed.
But I will remember this as my success story instead of my failure because, for the first time, I handled a group of 15+ interns working with me and learned how to manage a team and what problem a person can face while handling it. I learned how a team should be chosen, got to know about the obstacles and how to overcome those in a startup, and the most important thing is to understand the reason for failure and how I can overcome it next time. This would not be made possible if I initially thought of failure and how people would respond to it. It was made possible because I was determined to try something different and learn from it. We will succeed or get a failure is a result, but the most important thing is how much we know in that process, and that is a success. There is a term called “routine failing,” which some of you will think of as a person who failed many times in his life, but if we see this from my perspective, it means a person is active and doing something to move forward. If we listen to what society says, we will limit ourselves to a limit, which will stop our ability to make big things happen for us. So, instead of terming failure to lose my motivation and self-confidence, I see it from a different angle which is I see them as a success.
